Community Outreach
The chapters of the region, both
individually and collectively, engage in a number of initiatives to reach out to
and share with our communities. Chapters use needle arts to raise community
awareness about EGA , to help make our communities a better place, and to
further the knowledge about needle arts.
These activities range from fund
raisers for worthy causes to stitched items for new Habitat for Humanity
homeowners to public stitch-ins and exhibits to teaching needle arts to children
to creating ecclesiastical embellishments. Refer to the individual
chapter pages for more information about the activities of the chapters in
the Carolinas Region.
Contact the
Chair of the Carolinas Region Community Outreach Committee with your ideas
and comments.
Carolinas Region recognizes outreach
activities of its members by presenting chapters with Certificates of
Appreciation at each Region Meeting. Chapters are requested to provide an
annual report to the Chair of the Outreach Committee using the Outreach Reporting
Form in either
Word
or PDF
format.
The National organization subsidizes
youth outreach by providing annual grants to regions towards the cost of
materials used in teaching children under the age of 18.
EGA made significant contributions
throughout the country to The American Heart Association for Women's Heart
Health Research through the sale of over 3,000 copies of the
CHARMED HEART design in 2002.
CHARMED
HEART was retired at
the end of 2003, and replaced with AMERICAN HEARTS, a book of 6 heart designs,
during the same year. Margaret Kinsey's
HEART OF MY HEART
was introduced in 2004, and
My
Beading HEART is the newest design in this series. All
proceeds benefit women's heart health research.
The Liberty Fund of the American Red
Cross, through the sale of the
Susan Jacques Sampler, and
Habitat for Humanity also have benefited from EGA activities. In 1995
and 1996 EGA was given the honor of producing needlework ornaments for the White
House Christmas tree. EGA members from all 50 states contributed their talents
to this project.
